The Reindeer Who Couldn’t Fly

Once upon a time, in the enchanted forests near the North Pole, there lived a young reindeer named Twinkle who was different from all the others. While her friends soared through the sky with ease, practicing loops and dashes in preparation for Santa’s sleigh team, Twinkle remained grounded — quite literally. No matter how hard she tried, she simply couldn’t lift off the ground.

The other young reindeer teased her, calling her “Turtle Twinkle” because she was always slow and earthbound. Twinkle would lower her head, hiding the tears that sparkled like snowflakes in her big brown eyes. Deep down, she believed she wasn’t meant for the skies.

But Twinkle had something else — something magical. She had an extraordinary sense of direction. She could find her way through blizzards, track down missing mittens, and even lead the lost snow-owls home.

One icy night, just a few days before Christmas, a thick fog rolled in, blanketing the North Pole in misty silence. Santa was in trouble. His lead reindeer, Comet, had caught a cold, and none of the others could navigate through the dense fog.

That’s when Mrs. Claus had an idea. “What about Twinkle?” she asked. “She can’t fly,” said Dasher. “But she never gets lost,” added Vixen. Santa stroked his beard thoughtfully. “Let’s give her a chance.”

They strapped a magical sleigh compass to Twinkle’s harness and gently lifted her into the air with the help of Santa’s sparkly reindeer dust. At first, she wobbled and dipped — but then, something incredible happened. As she focused on the path ahead, her hooves began to shimmer. Slowly, gracefully, Twinkle started to fly.

She didn’t zip through the sky like the others — her flying was calm, steady, and sure. With Twinkle leading the way, Santa delivered every single gift, right on time.

From that night on, Twinkle was no longer teased. She became the North Star of the sleigh team — the one who always knew the way, no matter the weather. And though she never flew the fastest, she was the heart of the team, guiding them all with courage and kindness.

And every Christmas Eve since, you can spot a reindeer flying just a little lower, with hooves that shimmer and a name that sparkles like the stars — Twinkle.
